Building the Framework: Strategic Planning for Investigative Genetic Genealogy Teams

In this half-day workshop, attendees will be provided with knowledge and resources to build a structure for in-house investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) services. Topics discussed will include triage of cases, communication with potential partners, assessment of methodologies for SNP profile development, overcoming funding challenges, and other logistical needs for laboratories and law enforcement agencies. Genuine case examples will be used to illustrate obstacles and successes, and time will be provided for workshopping of policies and procedures as well as general questions and answers. Attendees should have at least a cursory knowledge of investigative genetic genealogy prior to attending this workshop.

Dr. David Gurney, JD/PhD is an assistant professor of Law & Society and Director of the Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center at Ramapo College. He is president of the Investigative Genetic Genealogy Accreditation Board and a board member of the Forensic Genealogy Special Interest Group of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
