Forensic DNA analysis is a pivotal tool in the criminal justice system, providing crucial evidence to solve crimes, exonerate the innocent, and contribute to a fair legal process. Despite its proven efficacy, the use of forensic DNA in Africa is limited by several challenges, including inadequate resources, insufficient training, a lack of standardization, and limited collaboration. Addressing these challenges is crucial for ensuring an accountable, safer, and just Africa. This study presents a compelling argument that highlights the importance of overcoming these challenges by outlining the need for international support in terms of capacity building, sustained investment in resources and education, standardization for continuity and data exchange, and international collaboration. Based on evidence from previous studies and experiences in the field, the study concludes that prioritizing forensic DNA in Africa is essential to building a more equitable and just society. This study serves as a call to action for policymakers, scientists, and other stakeholders to invest in the development of forensic DNA in Africa and bridge the forensic DNA divide in the region.
